How To Host A Twitter Party

Can't make it the actual Golden Globes after party? No matter, host your own awards show party on Twitter

Twitter party

One of the most anticipated social events in Hollywood is the Golden Globe Awards

Why do they always host these things on a Sunday-bleeding-night?! Why not a Saturday evening…the perfect party night? I’m usually in bed on Sunday by 10 p.m. and not exactly interested in going to a party. I know, nice "Party Mummy" I am. I have little kids who get up at 6 a.m. ok?

If you’re one of those young whippersnappers who stays up past 10 p.m., you can find tips for hosting an awards party here —last year’s Oscar party. I attended. I stayed up late. I partied. It was a glitzy good time.

If you plan to watch any awards show at home in your PJs, there IS a way you can still enjoy the party atmosphere without leaving your couch!

Just attend a TWITTER PARTY! It’s easy.

Here’s how:

A Twitter party is a virtual party hosted by one or two moderators who help keep the shindig on topic and alert people to the party ahead of time. Twitter users login and tweet with a specified Hashtag (#) for the party. The party host determines the hashtag. (Twitter platforms like Hootsuite, Tweetdeck Twhirl and Tweetchat make the party easier to follow).

There may not be cocktails or bean dip (unless you mae them yourself) at a Twitter party, however depending on who is hosting, there are often fab prizes! Many Twitter parties are sponsored. It’s a win-win really. Tweeps have a the opportunity to win great swag, while companies have a chance to draw attention to their products or services (a twitter party can generate thousands of tweets in under two hours).

Awards shows are a great occasion for a fast and fun Twitter party. Guests can bet on who will win in the next category or dish about the latest red carpet fashion. "OMG...I can't even believe she's wearing that!" says I in my flannel pajamas.

So search hashtags for a Twitter party in full swing and join the fun. There's no such thing as a Twitter party crasher by the way.  All are welcome. Or, if you'd like to play host, choose an event, round up a few sponsors, tweet out the deets and let the Twitter party begin!
