One of the most anticipated social events in Hollywood is the Golden Globe Awards.
Why do they always host these things on a Sunday-bleeding-night?! Why not a Saturday evening…the perfect party night? I’m usually in bed on Sunday by 10 p.m. and not exactly interested in going to a party. I know, nice "Party Mummy" I am. I have little kids who get up at 6 a.m. ok?
If you’re one of those young whippersnappers who stays up past 10 p.m., you can find tips for hosting an awards party here —last year’s Oscar party. I attended. I stayed up late. I partied. It was a glitzy good time.
If you plan to watch any awards show at home in your PJs, there IS a way you can still enjoy the party atmosphere without leaving your couch!
Just attend a TWITTER PARTY! It’s easy.
Here’s how:
A Twitter party is a virtual party hosted by one or two moderators who help keep the shindig on topic and alert people to the party ahead of time. Twitter users login and tweet with a specified Hashtag (#) for the party. The party host determines the hashtag. (Twitter platforms like Hootsuite, Tweetdeck Twhirl and Tweetchat make the party easier to follow).
Lionel Richie can party, Karamu, Fiesta, forever, All night long (all night), All night long (all night). Well, at least he did in his hay day. Now in his sixties it's more, All night long (til nine), All night long (with a nap).
I too used to party all night long. Now if I make it past 10 P.M. it’s an epic night. It’s not that the desire to whoop it up like a gorilla with its hair on fire has ceased. Unlike Lionel I’m not in my sixties thank you very much and this old mare still has plenty of party left in her. (Gorillas....mares? I have no clue what I'm talking about right now. I'm literally going on no sleep right now folks.)
My recent impediment comes in the form of a small blonde girl who lives in my house. SHE has been partying all night long—every night—for over a month. For some reason this child doesn’t sleep between the hours of 2 and 4 A.M. It’s horrid. I feel like the elephant from the successful campaign my friends Kathy and Dee promoted this holiday season. I’m the deflated elephant in this scenario—once a commanding beast, now grey and saggy and... deflated.
Until we can figure out what is keeping our night owl up hooting, the traditional hooting and hollering from her mama will be at a minimum. DD and I spent the night at a sleep lab last night in an attempt to solve this dilemma.
We’re currently awaiting the results. Hopefully we can get this resolved and get back to partying All night long, All night (all night)... or at least until midnight.
P.S. It’s hard to write when your eyes are crossed.
Love means never having to say you're sorry. According to Ali MacGraw in "Love Story" anyway. I completely disagree. So hubby, sorry for being such a horrid dishwasher loader and for eating the last of your chocolate covered almonds.
Another thing you shouldn't neglect to say is, "thank you." For example, when somebody sends you money so you can go out on the town in Vegas for your birthday and you forget to thank them....not cool. I am currently hanging my head and attempting to make ammends. THANK YOU Bonnie. I had a blast by the way and *may* have danced on a table...in your honour of course.
Outside of that monumental lapse in gratitude, I'm generally pretty good at thanking people for their generosity. We all get busy, but that's not a good excuse for not showing your appreciation.
I make easy thank you cards in Microsoft Publisher. You can too. There are also lots of templates in Word and similar word processing programs. Use pictures of your kids with their gifts (remember to take shots while the kids are opening presents or have them pose after) and customize each card accordingly. This is how we do our Christmas gift thank yous.
These are simple to make and print at home. Put them in an envelope (you can get them cheap at card stores this time of year. I bought a giant stack in all colours and sizes for a dollar!) and send them by snail mail.
Or, make a "thanks for hosting" card in a photoshop program, save as a jpeg and email it - quick and easy. Remember to take a picture of you with your host at the party to use in your card. Like this
THANK YOU in advance for the comments you're going to leave me about my fabulous dance pose in the card above. ;)
