Avoiding Carbs? Try this Pasta!

A High Protein Low Carb Pasta that will Suit Everyone In Your Family

watching your carbs

I was recently out for lunch with some girls and realized I was the only one ordering a sandwich.

If I was not pregnant would I be ordering a salad along with all the others? Try to reduce my carb intake and maintain a diet of veggies and protein? The answer to that question is probably yes. Today people are shying away from bread, either because they fear it will make them gain weight, they have a gluten intolerance or it does not fit into their current diet regime. In “Kneading in Some Feel-Good” Susan Krashinsky, marketing reporter for the Globe Mail explains that companies are trying to bring back ex-bread eaters by erasing the bad rap bread has been plagued with over the past couple of years. Take Dempster’s Garden Vegetable Bread for example. Not only are consumers getting whole grains by eating this bread, they are consuming most of their days worth of vegetables too. Krashinsky says that consumers are looking for foods that contain whole grains, nutrients, and minerals…everything nutritious to make it worth their while if they are going to eat bread.

Whether or not the nutritional value in Dempster’s Garden Vegetable Bread is the same as eating fresh vegetables is yet to be determined but one thing is for sure, many people today are cautious of their carb intake.

Last week I tried a product that will be of interest to you if you are watching YOUR carbs.

It is called Skinny Pasta and it does not claim to give you your days worth of vitamins and minerals but does promise to be low in carbohydrates and high in protein. I made it with my favourite tomato sauce and I would not have known it was any different than “regular” pasta had I not made it myself. I also had the opportunity to try Skinny Pasta’s butternut squash stuffed ravioli which was delicious as well. Skinny Pasta is made by Hollywood Foods. It contains three times the protein of traditional pasta and half the calories and carbs. It also is high in fibre making it a nutritious choice whether or not you are concerned with carbohydrate intake. With a glycemic index level of thirty one, it is diabetic friendly. Skinny Pasta is great for athletes, vegetarians, people looking to lose or maintain their weight, and parents trying to get their kids to eat more protein.

I highly recommend these pastas whether or not you are watching your carb intake; I promise you will enjoy them. Skinny Pasta is available at Cabbagetown Organics, Fiesta Farms, Foodland in the Beaches, McEwan’s, Summerhill Market, The Healthy Butcher on Eglinton, and Whole Foods Market. So come on back to carbs, or at least Skinny Pasta for starters, I promise you won’t be disappointed.
