OK, so we all know that no matter where you are there are double standards. I mean even in your kid's kindergarten class there’s a double standard of some sort happening. So it should come as no surprise that the double standard is alive and well in Hollywood, especially when it comes to vilifying those who break up marriages.
Well you know the fall TV season is upon us when the first new show gets the official axe! Yesterday The Playboy Club became the first new show of the fall season to officially get cancelled. And while I’m not surprised - mostly because as someone on twitter pointed out Eddie Cibrian was due for a little lesson in karma - I am a bit sad because I actually liked that show.
Who wants to join my TV club?! (please say this in your best ‘Rachel from Big Brother ‘who wants to see my HOH room?’ voice). OK, so we’ve been talking about it for a few weeks now, this whole TV club thing, and I think I have finally figured out a way to make it work. Because after all, there are book clubs and movie clubs and heck, even Party Mummy figured out a way to have a wine club, so why shouldn’t there be a TV club?
Today is my birthday. My 39th birthday. Which means that my husband has exactly 365 days to plan a really kick ass 40th birthday party. But no pressure. Originally I thought that today would consist of me hosting Daytime Ottawa again, but we all know that didn’t happen, and I’m ok with that.
OK so it’s upon us – the most exciting time of the television viewing watching season – it's premiere week! So while I have been busy as a bee doing this, I have also been fast and furiously setting my pvr’s to try and catch as many new shows as I possibly can.
The Flying Machine is a new family friendly movie starring Heather Graham that premiered at The Toronto International Film Festival last week. Part of their launch campaign was to invite bloggers to attend the premiere as well as a q&a with Heather. Sadly, because I live in Ottawa and back to school time is too crazy for me, I couldn't attend, but ShopMummy blogger Loukia did get to go, so here's a fab guest blog by Loukia about her TIFF experience.
The other day I was listening to local radio station Hot 89.9 and heard a contest promo about how you can ‘Win a Baby’. Now this is the radio station geared towards the younger crowd in the city so I thought that it was some kind of clever teaser for something obscure, although I had no idea what that would be. But then I saw billboards and heard more talk on the radio and as it turns out – it’s a real ‘Win a Baby’ contest.
It's hard to believe that another Labour Day long weekend has come and gone and the kids have gone back, or getting ready to go back to school. Of course most kids, when they return to the classroom and school yard, are going to be inundated with the age old question ‘How did you spend your summer vacation?’ and they will tell their teachers and classmates all about their camping trips, sporting teams, various road trips and time with friends. So why should the kids get all the fun?!
So this time of year isn’t just my fave time of year because the kids go back to school, but also because all of my fave shows start returning to the airwaves and I don’t have to watch crappy reality programming for fun.
I found this really great schedule of all the season’s biggest premieres over at EW.com and thought you might like it. So start planning your Fall tv watching now and let me know what premieres you are most excited to see!
Chris and Melannie Eldridge welcomed daughter Charlotte into the world almost two weeks ago. Sadly the little girl was born with a condition that requires her to be under intensive neo-natal care at CHEO, so these new parents are spending their time watching over their daughter in a hospital bed instead of cuddling her and cooing over her and enjoying being new parents. They haven’t even held her, or heard her cry.
Some of you may remember that in July I was lucky enough to co-host our local Rogers Daytime talk show called Daytime Ottawa. I had so much fun because of the crew and the producers and of course, show host Derick Fage. I have been on Daytime a lot over the years and he is always so warm and welcoming and a true pleasure to work with.
By now I’m sure you’ve heard that reality TV starlet Kim Kardashian married Kris Humphries in a lavish ceremony on August 20. And the reason I’m sure you’ve heard about it is because it seems that the Kardashian klan has sold the rights to every minute detail of the intimate affair so as to assure you’ve heard of it. And if your invite was lost in the mail don’t worry because E!
It’s no secret that I covet celebrity bodies. I mean really, who doesn’t?! I’ve blogged about the celebrity arms I wish I had and who my celeb run inspirations are, but I still don’t have a ‘celebrity body’. Mostly because I don’t dedicate all of my time to working out and I kinda really like Big Macs. Oh and there’s that little issue of having 4 kids to watch all day long.
The movie The Help opens in theatres today. Based on the bestselling book of the same name The Help will grab you from the minute you sit down and not let you go until the credits start rolling. It is a movie that will touch you, anger you, maybe make you feel a little ashamed and make you cry, all while serving up a healthy dose of laughter. From the opening scene of the movie when I started tearing up, I knew that this was going to be a good one.
Jessica Alba doesn’t consider herself to be a former child star, since most of her successes as an actress came when she was no longer a kid actor. Most people first came to know Jessica through the hit television show Dark Angel, but I first remember watching her on the television reboot of the series Flipper when she was just 14 years old.
Last week I was invited to an ‘Exclusive VIP Invitation’ for the launch of McCain Ultra Thin Crust Pizza. The event was held at the swanky Thompson Hotel Rooftop Patio and the reason that I decided to make the trip from Ottawa to Toronto wasn’t just to taste this new pizza – but it was because of who was hosting the event – Tori Spelling.
A few months ago I was lucky enough to get to interview Jordan Knight of NKOTB. A definite highlight for me given that I was fully obsessed with New Kids in my youth. So when my friend Eric Alper told me that he would try to get me a meet and greet with Jordan when NKOTBSB came to town, needless to say I thought I would die, just a little bit.
If you have kids, chances are you shop at The Children’s Place. I have 4 kids so needless to say I shop there more than I shop at pretty much any other store. They have cute clothes, fantastic prices and some pretty cool novelty items that you just can’t get at any other store (I’ve bought my daughter some cute monogrammed note books from there). Hands down they have the best jeans ever for my daughter!
