Next up in my Talking Parenthood series is the wonderfully talented singer-songwriter Jill Barber, who has an infant around Lauchie's age, the gorgeous Joshua.
Next up in my series, I'm pretty excited to interview Damian Abraham, of the Polaris Prize winning Toronto punk band Fucked Up (Damian also hosts The Wedge on Much Music). If you haven't figured out by now, I'm a big fan of punk rock, and I really enjoy the band's style, sound and it's evolution.
Recently, I got a chance to meet with four parents who also happen to be musicians, and was able to chat with them about touring, parenthood and if they have any advice or lessons they could offer being a parent in a unique situation. In the first of these chats, I met with Carolyn Brooks of The Good Lovelies. Caroline writes momontheroad.ca, a blog about touring with her daughter, Annie.
When I started watching Sons of Anarchy last year, I noticed the voice of the singer used near the end of a few episodes was very familliar, so I texted a friend and asked, "Who is singing?" She shocked me by telling me it was star of the show, Katey Sagal! What I didn't know was that Katey, while being a famous and accomplished actress, is also an accomplished singer.
So, this has been a big year of firsts for us. I took Henry to his first live theatre, his first movie, and we, as a family, went to Riot Fest a few weeks ago in Toronto. This was a two-day, outdoor festival.
Ok, I'll be totally honest. I was never really a HUGE fan of The Wiggles. At least not the way that Henry seems to be. Then, in the last year, three of the original (classic) Wiggles left the performance aspect and three new Wiggles joined. Emma, Symon, and Lachy join Anthony for a new CD, DVD and tour all called Taking Off with new songs, music and dance for all the wiggly kids who love them.
Last week, after reading Tanya Enberg's post Goodbye Rock n' Roll, Hello Children's Songs, I commented about a 'kids' album that I actually really love and realized that so many new parents are probably driving themselves batty, bored to tears over Toopy and Binou, ripping their hair out to The Wiggles and ready to run screaming into a burning building every time they hear Barney.
