If you follow me on twitter, or we're friends IRL, you probably already know that I've now sucessfully managed to take my second love (babies) and make it into my own business. My friend and now business partner Faye and I decided that we wanted to take our expertise and knowledge of baby products and move into a retail store that carries all the stuff we love. So, we started This Little Piggy and everything (so far) has fallen into place.
So, this past Thursday, The Academy announced this year's Oscar Nominations, and I have to say, I'm starting to feel a little underwhelmed by the choices of the Academy year after year. Don't get me wrong, I love the pomp of the ceremony: the dresses, the drama, all of it. But maybe it's my involvement in pop culture, or the fact that I'm getting older (and more disillusioned), but the awards seem like a really big MEH this year.
News today is that Blossom and Big Bang Theory actress Mayim Bialik is divorcing her husband of nine years. The couple have two young sons together. The LA Times broke the story and asked first and foremost if Attachment Parenting had a part to play in the divorce. FIRST AND FOREMOST. Bialik, as you may remember, recently wrote an AP book and was snapped breastfeeding her toddler on the NYC subway system.
What is going on this year? I feel like there have been A LOT of celebrity divorces (TomKat, Heidi and Seal, Russell Brand and Katy Perry, etc., etc.), and now we can add two more to the pile. Earlier this week, we found out that after thirty (YES, THIRTY!) years of marriage, Danny DeVito and Rhea Pearlman are divorcing. It was beyond shocking. They seemed like they'd really beaten the odds.
I might accuse you of living under a rock if you haven't heard about the "scandal" around Kristen Stewart and her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders. But I sat and waded through all the news pieces over the last two weeks and something always smelled fishy. I couldn't quite put my finger on it. But then it hit me.
I am sick. Possibly dying. Or maybe something died in my chest. Yet here I am, plugging away and sitting on these thoughts that have been driving me mad the last little while. It all started a few weeks ago when my friend Arianne and I were talking about all the gorgeous dads in La-la-land in prep for my Father's Day post. So many hot men. Bruce Willis came up, and we mentioned that his younger wife recently had a baby. A new (and handsome) Dad at 57. He even tweeted a lovely photo:
News broke last week that 19-year-old Miley Cyrus is now engaged to her 22-year-old fiance Liam Hemsworth (brother of Thor actor Chris Hemsworth). The first thought that crossed my mind was IS SHE OUT OF HER MIND? That was immediately followed by WHERE THE HELL IS HER MOTHER? If I told my mother that at 19, I planned on being married, she would have taken off her hard-bottomed slipper and whacked me with it (Greek mothers are notoriously tough). Miley's parents are "over the moon!" But why?
Last week, I got the chance to sit down on the phone and chat with Challen Cates, star of Nickelodeon’s Big Time Rush (parents of teens and pre-teens will know her as Mrs. Knight on the show) . Cates is lovely to chat with and we talked about everything from the show, BTR to motherhood and the pressure to stay gorgeous in Hollywood.
