Friends! I hope you'll excuse my placeholder, but I really wanted to get the full nominations list out to you yesterday, and was just beyond swamped!
But now, I've got some time, and I want to touch base on a few interesting things I've noticed in the Emmy list linked below.
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. I'm sort of surprised that Lena Dunham is nominated, and I wonder if it's only because of all the hype (good and bad) around her HBO show Girls (some background on this here). Do I think Dunham will beat everyone out for this award? No. But it's curious to see her nominated. I'm going to go back and take another look at the show before the awards in September. Maybe the award is deserved for her talent and not just because of the media firestorm.
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Way to go, Peggy Olsen! Peggy's gone from a secondary character to a lead in a big way. This is a great coup for her.
Outstanding Miniseries or TV Movie. American Horor Story. REALLY? Firstly, this is a regular series, not miniseries, and second of all, it freaking SUCKED. Possibly some of the stupidest writing I have ever heard verbalized ("Remember our sexy sex?" REALLY? Is this the BEST dialogue you could come up with? I thought we were saving all the crappy dialogue for Glee). And the "horror" aspect? *Spoiler alert* a gay ghost in an SMBD suit can impregnate a woman so that she has one ghost baby and one regular baby in her belly? Worst.
Outstanding Children's Program. Go Degrassi, go!
