Talking Parenthood With Jill Barber

Planning a Family is Different When You're a Musician

Talking Parenthood With Jill Barber

Jill-Barber

Next up in my Talking Parenthood series is the wonderfully talented singer-songwriter Jill Barber, who has an infant around Lauchie's age, the gorgeous Joshua. I loved being able to chat with Jill about family planning and how being a musician effects that decision making process.

I can't imagine how strange it would be to have to get up and go on tour in the first few months of parenthood, but Jill, like many other moms seems to be handling her situation with style and grace. Matt and I have planned our family, and we found so much stress in just having our kids under seemingly "normal" situations, so I can't even imagine what the conversations would be like in planning a baby around touring, recording an album or any of the other situations a musician of Jill's calibre would find herself in.

But I also bet that Joshua is loving every minute of his life!

Peaches Geldof Found Dead: Celebrity Blogger Reality Check

because we never know what's going on behind closed doors

Peaches Geldof Found Dead: Celebrity Blogger Reality Check

peaches Geldof

As we reported mid-afternoon Monday, Peaches Geldof was found dead at 25. She leaves two young sons both under the age of two. While she's been no stranger to controversy, including when I totally lambasted the woman, I worry that her life in the spotlight has somehow aided in her life ending.

While there hasn't been any official cause of death reported at the time I'm posting this, just the day before she died, Peaches posted a photo of her and her mother, who tragically committed suicide in 2000 on her Instagram account.

I feel terrible about this celebrity death for a bunch of reasons, including the fact that Sir Bob Geldof, her talented father, has basically had the worst time with his family in the last 20 years. Another one is that if she has committed suicide, it could very well be in part due to the scrutiny the young woman faced in the media, and I am one of the people who have called her out. So, I feel pretty terrible.

Big wake up for me: I can say that I "try not to judge" but I can really get fairly judgy. So, let's really work on this together. Outward appearances mean nothing and people can be deeply affected by things that others may easily shrug off. Peaches used drugs in the past, and as a mom who suffered severe post partum in the past, I wonder if having two babes so close in age pushed her over the edge, as it does for so many of us.

So, for what it's worth, I'm sorry for being a Mean Girl Mom and it's a real shame this young woman died. We are all waiting to find out how she died, and it's terrible for her young family and her father and siblings.
