SNL Season Finale Wrap Up

Did you stay up to watch Mick Jagger?

SNL Season Finale Wrap Up

This week's SNL was a season finale episode extraordinare that pulled out all the stops: Mick Jagger hosting and singing with TWO different bands (more on that in a moment), John Hamm and an SNL Digital Short: Lazy Sunday 2.

Some thoughts:

- The departure of Kristen Wiig, Jason Sudekis and Andy Samberg after this season will be a devastating loss as all three are integral and wildly funny.

- Win Butler of the Arcade Fire is a ballsy dude. He wore the red badge associated with the protesters in Montreal - who are loathed by many Quebecers.

- I have no idea why Mick Jagger was there and he wasn't particularly funny, but looks pretty good for a one million year old (conversation in my house; Me: Mick Jagger is starting to look the same as David Bowie. Matt: "They BOTH look like old lizards.")

- Lazy Sunday 2 was missing the hook that Lazy Sunday had, but Chris Parnell is an intense rapper. I wonder if the shorts will continue without Andy?

- Next week's repeat is the episode featuring Gotye again. I will watch because he's amazing and I am still not sick of Somebody that I Used to Know

- The Foo Fighters are a great band and I love Dave Ghrol.

So spill it: What did YOU think of the SNL finale?

A Fashion Nightmare

Kristen Stewart – what are you doing?

A Fashion Nightmare

I’m pretty sure that celebrities are handed almost everything they could want on a silver platter – including stylists who know what they are doing and what clothes look right on what people. If they don’t, well, they’re not very good stylists, are they?

Case in point? Kristen Stewart. Sometimes, Kristen is an absolute hit. But it’s so rare that I’m always shocked and surprised – as seen here in this Preen FW 2012 dress this past week during her UK press junket for Snow White and the Huntsman.

Dress and shoes are amazing, but she also looks like she just rolled out of bed. Win some, lose some, I guess?

Another hit? This Derek Lam dress she wore the very next day.

And then, there was the film’s UK premiere (which took place in between exhibits A and B) in a Marchesa dress that is so awful that K-Stew thought it best to pair with what looks to be unwashed hair:

What. The. Hell? Honestly. What the hell? Why is this appropriate to wear anywhere? Sometimes Haute Couture should remain on the runway as a fantasy of a designer. This is one of those times. I get that she doesn’t particularly care about the whole Hollywood “thing” but seeing a person look like this makes me think that they have zero self respect. Get a grip, young lady.

I think we (Kristen) should be taking our red carpet notes from someone who is able to be both edgy and stylish every single damned time (my personal style hero):

Tilda in Haider Ackermann.

(And for comedy purposes, here’s Bill Murray looking like a crazy person)

So, spill it! Do you think Kristen Stewart is a fashion Hit or Miss?

Celebritease

(Pleased to meet you!)

Celebritease

I was in a “meeting” (surprise congrats to a GF at work who’s getting married next week) on Monday, when I returned from my desk with an e-mail from Erica Ehm herself. This has happened one or two times in the past, but it doesn’t get any less exciting. This time, Erica was informing me that I had been selected to be the new pop culture blogger at YummyMummyClub.ca. I did a happy dance at my desk (full disclosure, I moonlight as an online project manager at a big, awesome charity). My mind swirled. Will the YMC mums like me? Can I say something fresh and interesting that people want to hear? Will people agree with me?

Then I realized—when applying for the position, and sending in sample videos and articles, I didn’t care about any of that. I cared about letting my voice shine through and well, “you like me….you really like me!”

A little more about me: I grew up on television and love the good and the bad (and even the true crime Saturday nights) and the downright questionable. I’m into sci-fi (Star Trek: TNG, Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars etc) so be warned—nerd crap could happen at any time (especially during Fan Expo time here in Toronto!). I am absolutely obsessed with George RR Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” and have moments of love and loathing for the show Game of Thrones (sometimes simultaneously). I have a spicy language (aka I swear) but will try and keep it to a classy minimum unless absolutely effing necessary. I don’t like BS, and love being proven wrong (like this and this) when it’s something about women. I’m guilty of playing favourites and maybe even being hard line sometimes (and call me out if I’m being a hypocrite, guys!), BUT, I’ll never steer you wrong and share everything I can find out about Hollywood and hopefully give you reviews for ultimate date nights out or in. I love bad jokes and memes (Kanye’s “…greatest of all time” will spring up from time to time), but most of all, I love all that goss—from the seedy to the sublime.

And friends, I promise that I will work hard at bringing it all to the table and letting it all hang out. After all, summer is coming (see, Game of Thrones joke) and I’ve got my shades.
