Oscar 2013 Nominations

There are a few snubs on this list

Just in time for the Golden Globes this Sunday (follow us on Twitter with #YMCGlobes!), the 2013 Oscar nominations were announced this morning. Can I just say, wow? Or what the? Or how about: are you freaking kidding me? Leo and Tarantino were mostly snubbed. As were Kathryn Bigelow and Ben Affleck. Sometimes, the awards get nominees so right. 90% of the time, they're so wrong (this year's an in-between).

Tarantino, Affleck, and Bigelow were all snubbed for Best Director and Leo was totally TOTALLY snubbed for supporting actor in Django Unchained (Leo = Susan Lucci, am I right?). Skyfall not being nominated for anything other than Best Original Song is also a shocker. That movie was quite good. Helen Hunt being nominated for The Sessions while her costar, John Hawkes was snubbed is also sort of awful (he played a paralyzed man and did so incredibly well).

Overall, Lincoln leads the nominations with 12, so it looks like that will be the big winner this year.

I love watching these awards shows so much, but I find that they really miss the mark in terms of nominating the actual most deserving films/actors/directors. I am a bit surprised, however, that I don't see anything for the On The Road remake starring Garret Hedlund and Kristen Stewart. Maybe it'll get into the 2014 nominations.

Check out the full list of the nominees over at The Academy's official site, and I'll tell you how you can watch along with #TeamYMC on February 24th, hosted by Seth McFarlane (yuck).

So, spill it! Do you think The Academy got it right with their nominations for 2013? What movies have you seen or will you see?
