It's that time of year again—awards season! The Golden Globes are kicking it off—as per usual—this January, with awards for both film and television, on Sunday, January 13. The fun thing about the GGs is that it's a far more causal setting and everyone's drinking, making for an anything-can-happen situation. The last few years have been hosted by Ricky Gervais, whose biting humour angered some (I loved him!). This year, the awards are being hosted by two AMAZING women, and very good friends—Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. I suspect if you found Gervais to be rude, you may be in for an unpleasant surprise with these two women. Both know how to pack a punch, and how to get a rise out of the audience!
The other great thing about the Globes is that they separate Drama and Musical/Comedy in the Best Picture category—something that doesn't happen at the Oscars, leading to very few musicals/comedies ever winning against the gravitas of serious movies, like leading nominee Lincoln.
One thing that REALLY jumps out at me in the nominee list is the lack of Game of Thrones nominations. I've got my problems with the show from a purely nerdy, fan-girl of the books perspective, yet I happily tuned in week after week. This season was very strong. I also found this season of Mad Men to be a snooze fest, but I think I'm the only one on that front.
I'm also curious to see if Skyfall, by Adele, or Suddenly, the new song written for Les Mis, will take the best original song win. I also wonder why the Hollywood Foreign Press didn't nominate Parks and Rec for Best Comedy Series. It's one of the funniest shows on television.
Below, you'll see some of the major award nominees.
So, spill it! Will you be watching the Golden Globes next month?
