Avoid Dreaded Light Tangle: How to Pack Your Holiday Decor

Your First Organizing Task of the Year

Avoid Dreaded Light Tangle: How to Pack Your Holiday Decor

Here's a classic first organizing task of the year...pack up all the Christmas decorations. Now that the holiday season is over, it is time to tuck it all away safely and neatly, ready for next year.

Here are some things that I do when packing up:

•  Wrap small ornaments individually but keep them together in Ziploc baggies

•  Use decorative cookie tins that have been given to us, to hold lights or larger ornaments

How To Easily Organize Your Gift Wrap

•  I have a string of felt ornaments that has a tendency to get tangled. This one gets wrapped around a piece of cardboard to keep it tangle free.

•  All of the little tree stand parts, including the screws we use to adhere the stabilizing plate to the bottom of the trunk, get stowed in a Ziploc baggie and stored inside the tree stand.

•  Everything goes into a few big clear plastic bins (so I can see what’s inside). And labeled, of course.

•  Pack the things we’ll need first next year right at the top (like the advent calendar and Christmas-themed kids books).

And if you’re already done packing up your holiday decorations or if you don’t celebrate Christmas, you’re already ahead. Sit back and enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine!
