5 Things About Fall That Are Guaranteed to Give You the Warm Fuzzies

I love the warmth of summer, and yet...

5 Reasons to Love Fall

As a parent, I love the summer. When the kids are outside, all seems right with the world. They fight less. They exhaust themselves by swimming and running and playing – and everything just seems like less work.

But every year, as August winds down and September starts up, I’m eager for fall again. I’m tired of sweating and humidity and frizzy hair. Applying sunscreen to wriggly children is now fully annoying. And washing load after load of wet swimsuits and damp, stinky towels? No thanks.

When fall rolls in, there are so many things about it that I adore. Here are just 5 of the most fabulous things to love about fall:

1. Fresh, crisp air

As far as I’m concerned, there are two types of people in this world. Those who love heat and humidity and those who sweat. (I’m the latter). Therefore, I love the coolness the fall brings. Fresh, crisp air means I can walk outside of the house and not instantly sweat off all my makeup. Plus – my hair actually stays straight, which means – finally – I can carry out my day without worrying that I look like Roseanne Roseannadanna. Oh – and there’s just nothing like flipping your pillow over in the middle of the night and nestling your cheek onto the cool side. Bliss.

2. Family traditions

Apple picking. Pumpkin patches. Tractor rides. Farm visits. Love it all. I love being outside, watching my kids’ cheeks getting rosy and then warming up over a cup of hot apple cider or a piece of pie. Every year, we carry out the same traditions and they never seem to get old.

3. Warm, hearty (carby) comfort food

Butternut squash soup, turkey and gravy, mashed potatoes, apple crumble, pumpkin muffins and hearty stews. Yes – I may have all the signs of an emotional eater, but I feel like that’s perfectly okay in fall. There are just so many flavours. And nothing says fall like the warm, buttery, deliciousness you find everywhere you turn.

4. Sweater weather

Cozy, chunky fall sweaters. I don’t really need to say much more, do I? Oooo – and boots. And cute little jackets. Swoon.

5. The stunning colours

My husband and I chose to get married in the fall for a reason. Some of the most gorgeous sights I’ve witnessed were on car rides through the country just to look at trees. So simple, yet so breathtaking.

So, fall? BRING IT!
