For most of us, music classes for our kids are easy to access and are not too difficult to turn into a reality. For kids in the Paraguay village called Cateura, a music instrument can cost more than a home! So it is not an easy dream to realize if a child has an interest in music. Which is where The Recycled Orchestra of Cateura comes in.
When I think of people I know who are making an impact on our world, I'm lucky to be able to name more than one. I know quite a few amazing people who are doing their own good things to make this world a better place and one of those people is my friend, Jo-Anne McArthur. Each and every day, Jo-Anne uses her talents, drive, determination, and passion to make her own special mark on humanity.
In April 2010, I stopped eating meat. The first question I get when someone learns this about me is why? There wasn’t one event in particular that made me change—it was really a culmination of things that led me to make the decision. The fact that I never really liked meat played a big part. The fact that there is a lot of cardiovascular disease and diabetes in my family was another. The fact that I had recently watched the documentary Food. Inc. also played a role.
