Rick Campanelli is arguably one the nicest guys in Canadian showbiz. Once referred to as Rick the Temp on MuchMusic, now he's a seasoned TV host on ET Canada, and recently joined 102.1 The Edge as a morning show host. Plus, Rick is also a very devoted dad of three.
When I used to work at MuchMusic, we were a tight little team. Most of us were fresh out of school - naive, passionate and driven. We spent hours creating leading edge television which resonated with a whole generation of music lovers. Some of us left early on, others jumped midstream and there are still a couple who are still there.
As YMC continues to grow, I expect the number of opportunities to connect and empower other amazing people will also grow. I'm motivated by watching individuals who have a dream make it happen. I'm drawn to programs which help individuals with big dreams realize their potential.
The mere fact that I'm writing this post rather than calling my friend ensures my place in the "Worst Friend Hall of Fame."
As you may or may not know, before launching YMC, I spent a decade on-air at MuchMusic. Before Much I was a wanna-be manager for musicians. I had one client. Wendy Lands.
Part of me thinks: "Now there's 2 hours of my life I'll never get back".
Watching the mega-extravaganza MMVA's snuggled with my 10-year old son is a significantly different experience than what felt like a million years ago when I was onstage as one of the hosts of the original MMVA's.
I spent the other night reliving the 80's with mixed emotions. My old friend Christopher Ward, also an ex VJ from MuchMusic who sat across from me at the Nations' Music Station for a decade, invited me to an event at the Horseshoe Club featuring a bunch bands who were big in the 80's. And when I say big - I mean hair.
On the roster: Platinum Blonde, The Spoons, Maestro Fresh Wes, Triumph and Chalk Circle.
Michael Williams - also a MuchMusic veteran - DJed - spinning tunes by Martha and the Muffins, Jane Siberry, Tom Cochrane, The Cult....you get the picture.
