Top 3 Summer Beauty Products

Summer-ize Your Beauty Routine

Summer is finally here! Yay!

Warm weather means a change in everything, lighter hair colour, lighter fabrics for clothes and certainly (hopefully?) a lighter schedule to enjoy the sunny days ahead.

With all that in mind reconfiguring your beauty routine for the season is a great idea.  A lot of advice columns are going to create lists of must do steps for summer beauty and I agree with a lot of what is about to be written, ie sunscreen, exfoliation, hydration etc.  There are, however,  three beauty steps that are rarely mentioned that offer great benefit and require next to no effort at all.

Here are my top 3 Summer Beauty Routine Must-Do Steps:

1.  Skip foundation. There are great ways to even out the skin tone without relying on heavy, oil based foundations.  Not only do foundations break down easily in heat they also feel heavy on the skin during the humid summer months.  My suggestion is to use colour correctors—these ingenious products are often overlooked as a novelty or even as a non-entity yet they offer a great way to neutralize red, cut sallowness and create brightness without ever having to use a foundation.  Granted they will not cover a blemish but for creating even, luminous skin tones these are the most amazing products on the market.  One clean sweep with a large powder brush and you are set for the day.

My Favourites:

Designer:  Guerlain Météorites Voyage  ($200 for 8g)

Spa:  Daniel Thompson Beauty Mineral Corrector ($89 for 8g)

Mass Retail:  Lancôme Ageless Minéral Complex ($42 for 10g)

2.  Dry clean the hair. Yep that's right! Reduce the use of liquid shampoo.  The cleansers in shampoo will cause the hair to become fluffy and frizzy in humidity and yet the oils that need to be removed will cause the hair to look limp and lifeless.  The solution is dry shampoo.  These amazing products refresh the hair by absorbing oils without over cleansing the hair.  Use them a few times a week instead of liquid shampoo and have manageable hair for days and days.  Wash once a week with a liquid shampoo and simply brush the dry shampoo out every day in between washing.  These are truly amazing products.

My Favourites:

Designer:  Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray ($54 for 300mL)

Spa:  Klorane Dry Shampoo ($22 for 150mL)

Mass Retail:  Suave Keratin Infused Dry Shampoo ($5 for 150mL)

3.  Fresh scents. Deodorants become so critical in the heat of the summer.  Did you know that most great fragrance companies make long lasting fresh scenty deodorants that not only kill perspiration but also keep you refreshed throughout the day.  These are great products to fight wetness and also impart great scents to uplift and energize you when the day is humid and hot.  Use them instead of perfume or your regular deodorant for a fresh alternative.

My favourites:

Designer: Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Lys Soleia ($60 for 75mL)

Spa: Lavera Body Spa Verbena ($25 for 100mL)

Mass Retail: Dove Energizing Body Mist Lemongrass and Grapefruit ($6 for 90mL)
