Live Clean Green Earth Shampoo – $6.99 for 350mL

Live Clean Green Earth Shampoo is a perfectly normal shampoo that has embraced the “green” motif as their standard point of difference. The entire range of Live Green products focus on ingredients that have not been included in the formulations.

That aside the actual cleansers, conditioners and overall formulas are comparable to just about any available mass market shampoo. With just a quick glance at the ingredient list it is easy to find all 21 ingredients in almost all commercial shampoos on the market. There is nothing really revolutionary about the Live Green products. My biggest critique is the how the company states they do not use nonrenewable resource ingredients yet packages the shampoo in plastic – which is made from petrochemicals and is nonrenewable by nature (all plastic is made from petrochemicals)

Pros
1. Fewer ingredients in general, which will reduce chances of irritation.

2. Great antioxidant ingredients coupled with gentle detergents for maximum clean with minimal drying of hair.

3. Inclusion of strong humectants are great for the Canadian market especially during the winter months.

Cons
1. Fragrance in the formula is the number one sensitizing ingredient in cosmetics.

2. Irritating plant oils that serve no purpose in the performance of the formula (eucalyptus).

3. Claims of local sourcing for suppliers of ingredients to reduce fossil fuel emission yet distributed through major retail chains which use heavy trucking distribution to stock their stores (one negates the other)

Overall – a very good basic shampoo that is safe, gentle and effective but in no way offers anything “greener” or superior to just about any mass market shampoo.

Less expensive alternative – any store brand (at the retail locations selling Live Clean) in larger volumes.
