The artist: British singer/songwriter Alex Clare

@purplehaze216 on YouTube said it best with this song comment: "It's happened, gentlemen. Dubstep has evolved into the mainstream."

Music and Videos

New Finds Of The Week

Some new releases this week (musically speaking of course) for you to check out. All the new tracks are available on iTunes.

(And if you're wondering who that is with me in the picture above...that's me and David Gray...and cue the squeeeeees. I finally got to cross off 'meet David Gray' from my bucket list this summer when I met him backstage after his Ottwa Bluesfest gig. He is dreamier in person and so completely and genuinely nice. Sigh.)

Consuelo: A Song By James Struthers

it's not every day you get a song written about you.

This is a totally a self-serving post...but it's not every day you get a song written about you.

Literally.

I've written about and featured a emerging Canadian singer/songwriter from Winnipeg, by the name of James Struthers, quite a few times here on the YMC BSides. Plus I nominated him as the Bell Media Emerging Artist, which he won a few months ago...so obviously I think he's super talented.

All Hail Maroon 5

And Adam Levine's Abs

So I'm on a Maroon 5 music kick today. And it has nothing to do with Adam Levine's abs.

Wait. Wait. Yes it does. Le sigh.

Maroon 5's new album 'Overexposed' drops on June 26th and you can catch them on the NBC Today Show Summer Concert Series on June 29th.

While I go collect myself from 'AL ab induced bliss'...here are some Maroon 5 videos to check out.

The Day You Say 'I Do'

My Ultimate Wedding Musical Lineup

Yesterday on Twitter, Eric Alper tweeted this . . . ‏

@ThatEricAlper Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong played Mark Zuckerberg's wedding. If you could have any musician play at your wedding, who would it be?

Needless to say, it got my attention and got me thinking. Hmmmm.....

American Idol Season 11 Winner: Phillip Phillips!

From humble pawn shop employee to rock star

"In the end, a humble pawn shop worker pursuing his dream was a more appealing narrative for more people than a technically brilliant singer who’d been prepping for stardom since she was 4 or 5 years old." ~Debra Yeo (Toronto Star)

Noah Goes Viral

LMFAO Never Sounded So Good

I may have mentioned it before but I love me a good cover song (and cue my musical obsession with Boyce Avenue and Phillip Phillips on American Idol).

With that said, there is this unbelievably talented singer/songwriter by the name of Noah who has taken the viral video world by storm with his crazy amazing cover of a LMFAO song.

Really LMFAO never sounded so good. He's been featured everywhere over the last week: Huffington Post, the Today Show and countless music blogs.

Brigg Fair

Brooklyn Indie Rock

So my new favourite, can't-stop-listening-to-it album is 'Kill Yourself For Change' by the Brooklyn indie rock band Brigg Fair.

I love this album and this band x1000.

“Kill Yourself For Change” was recorded primarily in upstate New York by British Producer, Iestyn Polson (David Bowie, Patti Smith). Lead boy Geoff Ereth met Polson by chance at a Polish doughnut bakery in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, which subsequently led to an agreement to make the debut record together.

Boyce Avenue Does Gotye

Under The Covers Tuesday

I love a good cover song I do...and one of the bands that consistently put out amazing covers is the band Boyce Avenue (@BoyceAvenue).

Really most of the time you end up liking their version better than the original.

Thanks to @MikeMachargo (fellow Boyce Avenue fan) for sharing this one with me this morning on Twitter...
