James Struthers: One Track Mind

We love this is a combination of Jack Johnson meets Jason Mraz meets John Mayer

Canadian indie singer/songwriter James Struthers is back with a new album called 'One Track Mind'. The album is now available on iTunes and I'm expecting everyone to go and buy it.

And it has nothing to do with the fact that the song he wrote about me made it on this latest release. Cough. Cough.

I spent the last couple of days going through my iPod, my "favourites" files on my Soundcloud account, and on my YouTube page and decided that a year-end review of all my favourite things—musically speaking—was in order. A totally self-serving post I know, but that's how I roll.

So here's Part 1 of "My Favourite Things: Music Edition"

Rewind: My Favourite Songs of 2013

What are your best tracks of 2013? Did any of yours make this list?

True, the task of picking a list of favourite songs from 2013 is entirely subjective, but this is a music blog and a review of the songs that made up 2013 is pretty much mandatory.

Here are the tracks that managed to land a piece of real estate on my iPod over the last 12 months.

Sounds Under Radio: A Career 'Pause' For the Band

They aren't saying farewell to music, they are merely taking a pause

When the newsletter hit my inbox I must admit that it made me sad to hear that the band Sounds Under Radio would be taking a hiatus.

The Pairing of Music and a Great Glass of Wine

How Earth & Sky Wines Create the perfect music-wine connection

music and wine

The thing I love to do most is gathering with friends for a great dinner—sharing laughs, stories, drinking great wine, all set to great music playing in the background. I live for making those dinner party playlists. Shocking revelation by me, I know.

Just a few weekends ago, I had girlfriends over for a 'let's make dinner and drink wine together' party. It was a girls night out, except we stayed in. And the best part? Comfy track pants were a dress code requirement.

Fall 2013: New Playlist

New Music To Check Out

Seems I've been slacking in the creating new playlists department....cough, cough.

So this weekend I searched away for music.

So here's the latest installment — some new tracks you may already know and love...the others I've sourced out from across the pond (because new music is always a good thing).

Mr. Probz: Waves

File This Under 'Sexy Songs'

You know there are some songs which are just so damn sexy—the ones that get you right there after you listen to it.

That's "Waves" by Mr. Probz. A total throw back to those slow jams of the late 80s and early 90s. You know back when they used to make really, really good love songs? That.

Oh and Mr. Probz? Totally hot. Not that it matters. Cough. Cough.

Brett Kissel

The Future Of Canadian Country Music

Brett Kissel is a twenty-three-year-old singer from Flat Lake, Alberta.

He has been dominating the Canadian Country Charts over the last few weeks. He has had the #1 Canadian country song for five weeks (and counting) and the #1 video at CMT for two weeks straight, all with his debut single "Started With A Song."

And to those musical accomplishments, Brett can add this stat: He set a Canadian country radio record for most adds in the first week of the single’s release.

L-O-V-I-N-G this remix of The Wanted's 'We Own The Night' (hello boy band and the song is ridiculously catchy) by Alex and Drew from NYC.

The aforementioned duo is better known as The Chainsmokers. Now for those familiar with the genius work by The Chainsmokers you might be all 'The Wanted really? No way. Get out!' But yes they did. And this is what Alex and Drew had to say about that...

The Ottawa electro-indie rock band FEVERS have just released their debut album, 'No Room For Light' (available on iTunes).

It was produced in Ottawa and Toronto by acclaimed producer Laurence Currie (Sloan, Wintersleep, Hey Rosetta!), and has already been picked up by CBC Music as a must listen: "It’s a challenging thing to make a care-free dance rock album while carefully stepping through a maze of wires and cables on a studio floor. Ottawa’s Fevers has accomplished that feat on their debut album, No Room for Light."

Royals x 2

Lorde vs Walk Off The Earth

Looooooove this song. Actually kinda obsessed with it.

The original by Lorde (Singer/songwriter from New Zealand. Real name: Ella Yelich-O'Connor. Age: 17):

And the cover by the Canadian (Burlington, ON) band 'Walk Off The Earth'.... Both are equally ahhhhhmazing.
