The Cygnets

Canadian New Wave Electro Post-Punk

Today on the Bsides, we spotlight a new band hailing from Canada, by the name of Cygnets.

Having shared the stage with acts, such as You Say Party! We Say Die! and Shout Out Out Out Out, they are definitely a group that has been drawing attention.

Cygnets is a three-piece, new-wave band, from Edmonton. A furious mix of guitars, synths, dancing, and despair. A unique harnessing of past and future sounds. A non-stop, energetic live spectacle. Idealists, who believe music should be accessible—which is why theirs is free. A band not interested in doing things the way they've always been done. A band that has people talking, and wants others in on the secret.

The group has been bringing their special brand of new wave/electro/post-punk to the masses, with great success, even landing a coveted spot on Much Music's video rotation. Inspired by The Smiths, Joy Division, and Depeche Mode, the band undoubtedly has a uniqueness of its own, contrasting danceable, uplifting beats, with dark, personal lyrics.

The group has just released their second album, Dark Days, with a simple, but great video for their second single, "Satellites."
