Lyrically Speaking

The Power of Song Lyrics

Maybe it’s because the day of required love...AKA Valentine’s Day is just around the corner (ahem tomorrow—considered yourself warned) but over the course of the weekend I had a few conversations about song lyrics and the ones that stand out and really get to your inner core.

The ones that repeat over and over in your head and give you shivers each and every time you hear them.

We all have our favourite song lyrics—some sentimental and some that make you think of that certain someone. The lyrics that make you smile…the lyrics that make you sigh…the lyrics that make you bite down on your lower lip.

Music is a powerful and amazing thing. Here are some of my favourites…and all this begs the question, which ones are yours?

Snow Patrol, Chasing Cars

“Touch your lips just so I know. In your eyes, love, it glows so, I'm bare boned and crazy for you. When you come crash into me, baby
and I come into you…” ~Crash Into Me, Dave Matthews Band

“Can you lie next to her, and give her your heart, your heart. As well as your body, and can you lie next to her. And confess your love, your love…” ~White Blank Page, Mumford & Sons

“Sometimes it takes a while, and other times it comes naturally. But I took one look at you I knew that you were meant for me. You know I’m not gonna walk away. Be here tomorrow just like today…” ~Lucky, Marc Broussard

“Stop your parents’ car, I just saw a shooting star. We can wish upon it, but we won’t share the wish we made. But I can’t keep no secrets. I wish that you would always stay…” ~Laundry Room, Avett Brothers

“I see you bite your bottom lip. Can you feel my kisses on your hands? You’re almost here you can catch your breath. A ghost is whisperin’ in your head: ‘No you’re not home’…” ~Fire Escape, Matthew Mayfield

“You say you’ll give me eyes in a world of blindness. A river in a time of dryness; a harbour in the tempest. But all the promises we make, from the cradle to the grave. When all I want is you…” ~All I Want Is You, U2

“And I’ll find a way to give you every part of me, just stay with me. And I promise I’ll be the man you need me to be. And I confess I can’t live without you. I’ll be a mess baby, and I need you to stay with me…” ~Stay With Me, Marc Broussard

“I brushed your curls back so I could see your eyes. And the way you moved me was like you were reading my mind. I can still feel you lean in to kiss me, I can't help but wonder if you ever miss me…” ~Dancing Away With My Heart, Lady Antebellum

“When you kissed my lips with my mouth so full of questions. My worried mind that you quiet, place your hands on my face. Close my eyes and say that love is a poor man's food. Don't prophesize; I could hold you in my arms. I could hold you forever…” ~Hold You In My Arms, Ray LaMontagne

“Love, love is a verb. Love is a doing word. Fearless on my breath, gentle impulsion. Shakes me, makes me lighter. Fearless on my breath…” ~Teardrop, Massive Attack

“It’s really good to hear your voice saying my name. It sounds so sweet, coming from the lips of an angel. Hearing those words it makes me weak. And I never wanna say goodbye…” ~Lips Of An Angel, Hinder

“Every smile you gave, every touch you made, every word you said. And it hurts beyond hurt. It was a love that blinds and a love that stings…” ~Kandi, OneEskimO

“And baby, the way you move me it's crazy. It's like you see right through me, and you make it easier. You please me and you don't even have to try…” ~You Are The Best Thing, Ray LaMontagne
