Roxanna: New Canadian Singer With An Inspiring Backstory

The Healing Power Of Music . . . Literally!

Roxanna: New Canadian Singer With An Inspiring Backstory

Roxanna is a Canadian singer/songwriter who has an unusual backstory.

Her music came about from her career as a nurse in Toronto. As a nurse, she would sing to her patients and often the healing sound of her voice would help their quality of life and, in some cases, help with their healing.

With that, she realized that music, like medicine, is a great healer—and destiny would take her down a different path. “When I saw patients return to health, I knew my music could be useful in this world. Pursuing my dream as a singer was the happiest moment in my life,” Roxanna says. “There’s a quote from Shakespeare that goes, ‘If music be the food of love, play on.’ I like to put my own twist on it: ‘If music can heal your soul, it can also heal your body.’ No matter where you are from, what language you speak, music has the ability to soothe, revive and foster hope. It is truly universal, in any language.”

A father of one patient, who had been helped through Roxanna's singing, decided to help Roxanna make her music for the masses and her album (Exotica, being released July 8), and ultimately her dream was born.

Great New Music You Need To Check Out: Kongos

Play Loud And Play It Often

Great New Music You Need To Check Out: Kongos

It's not very often that I pull over into a parking lot to download a song off of iTunes after hearing said song on the radio for the first time.

But that is exactly what happened when I heard 'Come With Me Now' by Kongos after just one listen.

It's the perfect workout song (if you do that sort of thing) and an even better 'I'm stuck in traffic on the drive home and I need to play a song on repeat and play it loud so I avoid any road rage and need to be brought back to my happy place' track.

'Come With Me' is infectious. The music is inspired by Kwaito — a style of South African music. It's raw…a total stomp your feet and pump your fist music vibe that's mixed in with that classic alt rock growl and an accordion.

Yes an accordion.

And it all works together to a musical perfection.  The track is a must add to any road trip playlist this summer.

So damn good.

And the Kongos? They are a South African alternative rock band (they now call Arizona home) consisting of four brothers: Johnny, Jesse, Dylan and Daniel Kongos. And they are now officially on my concert bucket list (that list needs to be revised and updated stat).

And the bonus? The Kongos brothers are totally cute. Le sigh.
