Splash'N Boots

Children's Group Of The Year Nominees

Splash'N Boots

Hot off the heels of a cross-Canada theatre tour with Treehouse LIVE, cutting-edge children's performers, Splash'N Boots, are nominated for the SiriusXM Indie Awards' prestigious title of 2012 Children's Group of the Year.

With their infectious music video, “For the Love of Dance,” airing nationally on Treehouse TV, Splash'N Boots need public votes to reclaim the title of 2012 Children's Group of the Year, for which they were crowned back in 2007.

Voting is open right up until Friday, March 23, 2012. Vote here.

Now in its twelfth year, the SiriusXM Indie Awards will take place in Toronto, at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, on Saturday, March 24, 2012.

“It's an honour to be nominated again for Children's Group of the Year,” says Taes, the group's 'Boots.' "Having our work recognized by our peers means so much to us.”

“This award is so important to us because the fans have such a big say in it,” says Nick, the group's 'Splash.' “We've always had supportive fans and we're happy they get to be part of the voting process.”

With five CDs and two full-length DVDs under their belts, as well as over one thousand international festival and theatre performances, there is no sign of slowing down for this young husband and wife team.

Currently writing their sixth album, the new ten-song compilation will be based solely on fan feedback. For the next month, fans can help Splash'N Boots write song titles, lyrics, and even the album name, via their Facebook page.

With a portion of all proceeds going to Sick Kids Hospital, fans will also be asked to submit artwork, which will make up the CD's booklet, making this album the ultimate fan/band collaboration.

In addition to their music video currently on heavy rotation on Treehouse TV, the duo also landed an additional four music videos, as well as four half-hour episodes of Roll Play that will air on the popular children’s network for the next six years.

Spotlight: Teeth & Tongue

AKA Jess Cornelius

Spotlight: Teeth & Tongue

“She’s ready to seduce America (literally) with her sultry, hypnotizing sound.”- NYLON

“There are names often invoked for an artist in the line - Patti Smith, Kate Bush, PJ Harvey – and Cornelius manages to be a beguiling combination of all three.”- ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE

Teeth & Tongue is New Zealand born, Melbourne based musician Jess Cornelius.

After making a racket and trailing her lipstick-smeared microphone across bar-room tables in several rock bands (including Australian Music Week showcase winner Moscow Schoolboy), Jess got her hands on a couple of drum machines and decided to take her act solo.

With only the accompaniment of a drum machine, synthesizer, electric guitar, and a sampler, Teeth & Tongue has been asked to open for such high profile artists as The Mountain Goats, The Dodos, Sons and Daughters, J Mascis, Lydia Lunch, and Dawn Landes, and she has performed at both The Falls and Laneway music festivals.

The song ‘Unfamiliar Skirts’ was written and arranged in just one evening while making use of an in-home studio, and those first simple demo recordings resulted in Teeth & Tongue’s mesmerizing first single, now nominated for EG Award’s “Song of the Year.”

You can catch Teeth & Tongue during Canadian Music Week at the following venues in Toronto:

3/21 | C’est What | @ 9pm

3/23 | Don’t Touch That Dial Presents… | The Garrison | TBA

3/24 | Aussie BBQ | El Mocambo (Upstairs) | @ 3:10pm

Big Wreck

New Album Albatross

Big Wreck

One of my all-time favourite Canadian bands is Big Wreck. And it has NOTHING to do with my little crush on lead singer Ian Thornley.

The band finally released a new album this week (it's been nearly a decade since the band has released new material) called Albatross. It's classic sounding Big Wreck. So if you were a fan of there hits, 'The Oaf', 'Blown Wide Open' and 'That Song' you'll love their new musical offering.

Here is the first single—the title track of the album...'Albatross'

And here's a little video trip down Big Wreck memory lane.
