So the other day I posted a road trip music playlist inspired by the new Honda Odyssey audio system.
The music was random...a little bit of this and a little bit of that that...but it was all about capturing the spirit and adventure of hitting the open road.
Here are your picks for must have tunes when you set off on those long car trips...
@JYoung6: My roadtrip ain't complete without Free Fallin'/Tom Petty, Life is a Highway/Tom Cochrane, and Just Another Day/John Mellencamp
@ksswansong: I'll skip The Hip, etc. Too Fake - Hockey, Woman - wolfmother, harder to breathe - Maroon 5.
@caffeinated_mom: I like songs I can belt out, "Sometimes Wanna Die" Joydrop, "Who Will Save Your Soul" Jewel, anything by Annie Lennox
@AVeryGoodYear: Prodigy "Firestarter", B52s "Love Shack", Motorcycle "As the Rush Comes" (Gabriel & Dresden remix)
Stephanie Montreuil: Life is a highway by Tom Cochrane... Love singing that at the top of my lungs!
Andrea Marcus: Teenage dream, everybody wants to rule the world and Deadmau5's I remember.
Chris Milosek: Tweeter and the Monkeyman (Headstones)
Riley Clemmings: I love the song Soak up the Sun, or Pocketful of Sunshine.
Johanne Lancellotta: Dreams - by The Cranberries, was our favorite during the Girls Only Road trips :)
CecandJordan: Soooooooo not my typical type of music but when i hear the Counting Crowes` ``Mr Jones`` i drive around til its over, even if i`m on my street and i sing it LOUD!
Sherrie Guthrie: Long December Counting Crows - All Uncovered The Watchman and ANYTHING by Matt Good :)
Ingrid O. Meza-McDonald: I like Jack Johnson- In Between Dreams albumn I can listen to it all the way through. Never Know- one of my fav tracks!
Lisa Theriault: anything by the Hip, the Doors, or Butterfly Boucher!
Terry Lee: Life is a highway by Tom Cochrane, Radar Love by Golden Earring & Ahead by a Century by Tragically Hip
YummyMummyClub Erica Ehm: Anything U2 or Lucinda Wiliams
So are what are the songs you love listening to in the car that gets you in that blissful road trip state of mind? And since we're always on a quest to find really good music for the kids...share your great kid's music finds with the rest of the YMC readers int he comment section. Because musical sharing is a wonderful thing.
This past summer my family and I took our very first road trip, followed quickly by a second - we like to live dangerously. Suitcases, snacks, bags, books and toys packed, we hit the open road with two very long drives ahead of us.
There was the usual excitement and anticipation in the air of adventures but as I got comfortable in the passenger seat tuned into my favourite satellite radio station, it started.
'Mommy we don't like this music. Mommy change the station. Mommmmmmy pleeeease we don't like this. It's too loud Mommy. Mommy'
And then cue my husband - 'Well there's no way I'm listening to kids music for the next couple of hours...I'll lose my mind. If you kids don't.........'
A four hour car trip, not including bathroom and snack breaks, and we barely made it out of the garage and down the driveway.
Needless to say it was a LONG drive...like long, really long. Excruciatingly long.
So a couple of weeks ago when I was introduced to the new Honda Odyssey I felt like the world of impossible road trip expectations had finally been lifted off of my shoulders. Especially when it came to the whole 'music in the car while we're driving' drama.
For me the huge standout feature was the audio system. Come on, I live and breathe music on a daily basis....so this revelation should come as no real surprise.
The official marketing description from Honda Odyssey on their audio system goes something like this: "Available 650-watt Premium audio system with MP3/Windows Media® Audio playback capability with 12 speakers including subwoofer and 5.1 Surround Sound and available XM® Satellite Radio. Steering wheel-mounted audio controls make playing your favourite song a snap, and you won’t have to search the dashboard just to change the volume. Two available wireless headsets with personal surround sound lets kids stay tuned to their own channel."
In Mummy speak it means the kids can listen to their own music in the back with wireless headsets, while Mommy and Daddy listen to their music in the front. Everyone is happy. Everyone is in their own musical trance.
Cue family road trip bliss.
I must confess that the song played in the Honda Odyssey TV spot (yes I'm one of those geeky music people that listens to the music in TV commercials) totally caught my attention. Le love it I do.
The song was written for Honda but it fits that whole laid back, no cares in the world, we're on vacation road trip vibe. The song is 'Pinhole Sky' by Nathan Kreiswirth and it totally belongs on every road trip playlist.
You can check out the commercial on the Odyssey website and if you like the song as much as I am currently loving it - you can download it for free and Honda Canada will donate $1 to Safe Kids Canada for each song downloaded. So really, go check it out and spread the word...the track is that good.
With thoughts of road trips and music on the brain I figured it would only be fitting to do two customized play lists for the open road....one for Mom and Dad and one for the younger kids in mind.
The reality is there are a zillion songs that could be chosen for a road trip...but my mission was to capture the excitement, freedom and adventures of travelling the open road.

“For all those who thought Liam Gallagher would be musically astray without big brother Noel, meet Beady Eye.” ~The Boston Globe
Beady Eye have announced their first North American tour dates. The band (Liam Gallagher, Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock) will be giving fans a first live taste of their debut album, Different Gear, Still Speeding, in a series of concerts beginning in Chicago on June 18th followed by Toronto on June 20th and New York on June 23rd.
Beady Eye is currently on their sold-out debut European tour.
When asked how it felt to be on stage for the first time ever as Beady Eye, Liam Gallagher immediately said “Loved it.....can’t wait to take it around the world.”
Beady Eye’s debut album, Different Gear, Still Speeding, features 13 brand new songs written by the band and recorded at RAK Studios in London last fall with GRAMMY Award-winning producer Steve Lillywhite (U2, Dave Matthews Band, The Smiths).
Beady Eye was formed by three former members of Oasis, including front man and lead vocalist Liam Gallagher. The multi-platinum and Grammy nominated Oasis sold over 70 million albums worldwide spanning seven studio albums awarded with six Brit awards, 15 NME awards, nine Q awards and four MTV Europe Music awards, just to name a few. Beady Eye’s inaugural European Tour in March this year sold out within 30 minutes of going on sale. The band will be joined by Matt Jones on keyboards and Jeff Wootton on bass.
