Will Stroet is Back

Music For The Young Kids in Your Life

Will Stroet is Back

If you're looking for a musical Christmas gift for the young kids on your list, there is a new CD out that's perfect a blend of informative and fun.

Bilingual children’s musician Will Stroet, a two-time Western Canadian Music Award nominee from Vancouver, B.C., is back with his fifth release (and his most rockin’), 'Walk ‘n’ Roll'.

As a former music teacher in Vancouver, Will easily connects with kids through high-energy, interactive and educational music in English and French. “Walk ‘n’ Roll,” includes 12 action-packed songs in English about reading, walking safety, sports, vegetables, animals and personal hygiene.

“Most kids today have a more sophisticated taste in music than they are given credit for. So, I use interesting rhythms, rhymes and wordplay in my songwriting to connect with kids and their parents. I try to write unique songs that deliver an educational message in a fun way,” says Will.

Will was inspired by some of the great legends of blues, rock ‘n’ roll and folk music, including Stevie Ray Vaughan, Chuck Berry, Elvis and Bob Dylan, while writing this album.

The Insurance Corporation of British Columbia commissioned Will to write the title track and “Boost Me Up” to educate kids about walking and booster seat safety. These two rock ‘n’ roll - based songs, along with his previous hit, “Bike Safety Boogie,” are on the Walk'n Ride Rhymes CD, which is part of ICBC’s road safety curriculum available to B.C. teachers.

Here is Will's latest video 'I'm Gonna Walk':

Will Stroet's CD is available at local retailers in British Columbia and iTunes.

Calming Music

For Those Moments Where You Need to Destress

Calming Music

Feeling a little stressed out with the holidays fast approaching? Well I have some music that might be that de-stress 'fix' you're searching for.

@chilloutchannel send me this video on Twitter a few days ago and I've been in a state of total zen bliss ever since.

Toni Simonen is a 24 year old Finnish electronic musician and he composed this piece called 'Endless Sea' (Café del Mar Music).

It's very beautiful...calming, soothing and tranquil...just like the element of water itself.

And everytime I listen to this...I instantly relax and can hear Meditating Mummy repeating in that calm voice 'just breathe, just breathe'.

So enjoy and take a musical moment to 'chill'.

Benny Bensky and The Parrot Napper

Fabulous New Story by Mary Borsky

Benny Bensky and The Parrot Napper

Bram Morrison has been a part of my life for a very long time (I still have all my Sharon, Lois and Bram records…nothing like the old skool vinyl).

So I was giddy when I was given the chance to review the audiobook Benny Bensky and the Parrot-Napper because it was narrated by Bram Morrison himself.

I was instantly transported back in time to that little girl playing her very favourite Singing ‘n’ Swinging album by Sharon, Lois and Bram on her bright orange Fisher Price record player.

But I digress.

"Benny Bensky and The Parrot Napper" by Mary Borsky , is part of the fabulous Bram reading series from RMW KIDS eAudiobooks

The book is filled with adventure, lessons of friendship and ‘fitting in’ when you feel left out.  It’s descriptive language, great spirited characters and fun filled plot will engage both boys and girls and parents alike.  And seeing the mystery adventure story develop though the eyes of a big, black dog proves for great entertainment.

When their neighbour, Mrs. Graham, charges Rosie and Fran with the responsibility of parrot sitting her pet, Peanut the Parrot, the girls and Benny think the job will be a walk in the park.

While Rosie and Fran immediately take to Peanut — going so far as to make him an honorary detective, Benny is unimpressed with the "dowdy gray" bird. Soon the charming and very vocal parrot makes his way into the girls' hearts and Benny is left out in the cold, wondering if he still fits in.

But when Peanut becomes the latest victim in a parrot-napping ring, Benny senses something is terribly wrong . . . and he and the girls set out to make it right. Determined to find Peanut before Mrs. Graham's return, Benny, Rosie, and Fran head out on a new adventure to bring Peanut the Parrot back home.

Here is Bram reading an except from "Benny Bensky and The Parrot Napper"

Listening to this book with my two kids as we snuggled under the big blanket, eating popcorn and drinking hot chocolate was family entertainment at it's best.

Mr. Morrison you have captured a whole new generation of fans with this eAudiobook and the fact that I can experience my childhood with my kids all over again makes even that more special.

And for the record, I never guessed who the parrot-napper was until it was revealed at the end…so much for my mystery solving skills.  We need to work on that ‘detective’ in me.

Here is a list of the other books in the RMW Kids Bram reading series:

The Triple Chocolate Brownie Genius by Deborah Sherman

...and a great spooky series of folk stories by Veronkia Martenova Charles
