Style 101: 5 Hair Hacks You Didn't Know You Needed

Less time, more style.

Looking good doesn’t mean you need to spend hours getting ready. These hair hacks mean you’ll spend more time drinking coffee and less time styling your hair. | Beauty | Style | YummyMummyClub.ca

Ask any mom, and she’ll tell you that mornings are so hectic, it’s sometimes a miracle anyone has pants on leaving the house. Or at least, that’s how mornings look at my house… and for that reason, I’ve had to get creative so I can get ready in less time without sacrificing style and, uh, personal hygiene and stuff.

Looking good doesn’t mean you need to spend hours getting ready. It just means everyone will think you did... and I think we can all agree to call that a win. Whether you want more volume or less drying time, these hair hacks mean you’ll spend more time drinking coffee and less time styling your hair.

HAIR WANT: Less Frizz

Ditch your usual towel and grab that old t-shirt you (or your partner) has had since college. After washing and conditioning your hair, gently squeeze excess water from your hair and then wrap in a soft tee. Why? It’s less abrasive and will help reduce breakage, which in turn reduces frizz. Use a smoothing balm or light hair oil to further smooth your hair and add shine.

HAIR WANT: Faster Dry Time

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: the Goody QuikStyle Paddle Brush is the best thing since sliced friggin’ bread, y’all. Those microfibre bristles remove water, meaning your hair dries faster. Bonus: The ball-ends on the brush bristles won’t snag your hair or scratch your scalp. You need this brush.

Also: let your hair dry a bit while you make coffee and pick out clothes. It’ll cut down on the time you spend holding the hairdryer AND helps protect your hair from heat damage.

HAIR WANT: More Volume

Forget mousses and root boost sprays and say hello to coarse sea salt. Add a tablespoonful (or more or less depending on your hair length and thickness) to your usual shampoo. It’s a much cheaper version of LUSH Cosmetics Big Shampoo and the sea salt equals a lovely scalp scrub. Just be gentle - we don’t want breakage! Another cool hack? Condition before you shampoo.

HAIR WANT: Stronger, Softer Locks

Step away from the pricey repair masks at the salon and head to your pantry. Coconut oil hair masks are AMAZING and only require one thing: the coconut oil you probably already own. Depending on your hair length and thickness, use a tablespoon of melted coconut oil and work into your hair from the ends up. Wrap hair in a warm towel or cover with a shower cap and leave on for 30 minutes or more. Shampoo and rinse well. (Do this on a weekend to have soft, shiny, bouncy hair all week long.)

HAIR WANT: Fuller Ponytail

So you’re out of options and you need to get moving. To create the illusion of a fuller ponytail, simply tie your hair up, separate the tail in half and clip a claw clip in the middle of the pony tail. Bam. Instantly fuller hair. (Use a clear clip or one in a shade close to your hair colour so it won’t be obvious.)
