Welcome back to the A to Z of Taming Tantrums series! This week I cover the letter L, and L is for Letting Go.
What does letting go mean to you? When I think of those two powerful words, I think about giving up control that everything has to be exactly the way I want it. I learned early in my parenting journey that there are many things we cannot control when it comes to raising a young person. Accepting this is part of the process of helping our children and ourselves through emotional upset.
A lot of the time our need to hold our home or our children to an unrealistic standard can cause tension, which comes out as tantrums. Also, we can become more upset when we forget that children do what children do: they are distructive, curious, upset easily, want independence but don't have the skills to necessarily be safe, and don't think ahead to the consequences of their actions.
Other than holding the bar too high, I believe there are other things we can let go of to better attend to our children. Please watch the video below to learn more...
What do you think you could let go of to be the parent you'd like to be? I'd love to hear your answer. Please comment on the YouTube video or over on my Facebook page.
