In Business Since: 2012

Business Highlights: I am a big talker. I am always posting to my website. Nothing overly personal, but I like to feel like I'm connecting with my clients. I had a table at the Made By Hand Show a few weeks ago, in Mississauga, and I had four clients come to my table, know my products and my story. One asked me if I was feeling better after being sick the week before! I really felt after that that my words and products were actually reaching an audience and I felt a lot less anonymous then. I love that I am able to make personal jewellery for people, and that they then seek me out to share their jewellery, and keep connecting.

Business Question: I think because my products are personalized, my best option is a website for ordering products. My biggest challenge is then, how do I most effectively reach an audience that will then go to the website? How do I promote a website? Where do I promote a website?

Spark’s Insights: You’re right to think about how people will find your web siteit’s a common misconception that when it comes to web sites, "if you build it, they will come." Some great ways to promote your web site after you build it are:
  • Regular newsletters to your mailing list.
  • Promote your web content (think new blog posts, new products, contests, etc.) via your social media channels.
  • Team up with other entrepreneurs to share each other’s web sites via the above.
  • Continue to get out and show people your products. Make sure they leave with your web info, so they can come back and find you in the future.

Jo’s Advice to Other Mompreneurs: Coffee. Lol! I often work in the evenings after babies are in bed, and still get up with them at 6am. Thank goodness for coffee beans!
