Urban Wall Decals

a fun and modern way to add pattern to your walls

Urban Wall Decals

Are you looking for a modern way to add some pattern to your walls but are a bit afraid of wallpaper or stencils? Wall decals may be a great solution for you. Decals have come a long way in the past few years and Urban Walls, a Canadian company, has some amazing designs for any room in your home. I love how current and stylish they are. They are easy to apply, last for years and you can choose from a ton of colours for each pattern. I fell in love with them on Instagram and I know you will too!

Time to shop: polka dots I plus signs I large heart I mini hearts I anchors

What do you think, would you add decals to your walls? I would love a large minty heart for my desk area and the anchors are so much fun.

Basement Family Room Makeover Reveal

how to make a room work for every member of your family

Basement Family Room Makeover Reveal

basement makeover

Our basement is one of the reasons we bought our house. It is a huge, open space, complete with a wood burning fireplace. Gradually we have been working on making it a functional and cozy family room. There was one area behind the sofa, however, that remained neglected. It needed to act as a guest room and toy storage area and it was failing miserably at both. This spring, thanks to a project I worked on with Today's Parent magazine, I turned it into a beautiful space that welcomes our guests and hides toys.

Here is what it looked like before: awful, unwelcoming, and sad.

Now it is completely transformed! I placed an IKEA daybed between two IKEA Hemnes wardrobes. Because it is a family space, I added fun colours and patterns to the bed with the cushions and polka dot cover

Over the daybed, I hung a photo of the boys and two pieces of word art from Penny Paper Co that I love, because of course, my kids are a super big deal in my world. The side table is a find from one of my trips home to Nova Scotia and the rug is a stencil project I did for Cityline.

The wardrobe on the left houses any items a guest may need, including hanging space for clothes and extra linens. The wardrobe on the right is for the kids' costumes and toys. No more clutter! The drawers under the bed contain their train set and out of control dinosaur collection.

The drawers in the toy-filled wardrobe hold the boys' smaller toys and lego in plastic bins. To make sure they never forget where to put things away, I added photos to the bottom of each container. Cleaning up is SO much easier now that everything has a home.

Where the bed used to sit I created a chalkboard wall to display the kids' amazing artwork. To make your own, read these easy step-by-step instructions

On the opposite wall is a small table and chairs for getting crafty. I hung this colourful art low over the table for inspiration.

Paper-wrapped cans hold art supplies.

We are so happy with the transformation. I now actually want to spend time down in the basement.

Stylish Family-Themed Art

all in the family

Stylish Family-Themed Art

I am a very nostalgic person, especially when it comes to my family, so I am drawn to personalized family art. Check out these sweet ways to celebrate your family. Each of these customizable family themed art pieces can be found on Etsy, one of my favourite places online to source anything artsy or crafty.

This modern take on a family tree, by cozyblue, is available in several colours.

Bring your family with you everywhere you go with this customizable phone cover from My Little Buffalo.

I love these peg families. You can personalize them for each member of your family, including your pets. And yes, I am going to say it, because it is *almost* that time of year: they would make a great stocking stuffer for everyone.

I have always had a thing for houses {shocker} so I am partial to custom house illustrations by House Love Shop. You could do one of your cottage, your first home as a family, or the home your currently live in.

These My Little Buffalo custom family illustrations are so fantastic. As the shop slogan says: they are affordable and adorable. This is on my Christmas wish list for sure!
