Cameron Diaz On Why She Doesn't Have Kids

I was never drawn to being a mother

Cameron Diaz On Why She Doesn't Have Kids

Hard to believe that Cameron Diaz has been dazzling the silver screen for 20 years now. In an interview in the latest issue of Esquire, Diaz dishes on why she never got married and had kids like so many of her contemporaries.

According to an article in Pop Sugar, the 42-year-old actress, whose latest movie is Sex Tape, isn't looking over her shoulder pining for what never was.

"It's so much more work to have children," said Diaz. "To have lives besides your own that you are responsible for—I didn't take that on. That did make things easier for me. A baby—that's all day, every day for eighteen years. Not having a baby might really make things easier, but that doesn't make it an easy decision."

While I've never been a huge fan of Diaz's work (I actually prefer Jennifer Aniston in comedies), she's refreshingly straight-talking and seems to know her own mind. And that applies whether she's talking about motherhood or what it's like to be over forty.

"I like protecting people, but I was never drawn to being a mother," admits Diaz in the Esquire interview. "I have it much easier than any of them. That's just what it is. Doesn't mean life isn't sometimes hard. I'm just what I am. I work on what I am. Right now, I think, things are good for me. I've done a lot. And I don't care anymore."

What do you make of Diaz's comments? Are motherhood and marriage not suited to everyone?

Oddly, Cameron Diaz scored the lead role in a comedy about what it's like to be pregnant.

Graco Double Stroller Poses Safety Risk

Consumer Testing Reveals Brake Failure

Graco Double Stroller Poses Safety Risk

stroller safety risk

According to a press release by Consumer Reports, during testing, the wheel brakes on Graco's Ready2Grow stroller released, causing it to roll.

Graco’s Ready2Grow features a seat as well as a platform to accommodate another child. Brake failure poses a potential threat to both children using the Ready2Grow Classic Connect LX and similar models—Classic Connect, Click Connect LX, and Click Connect.

The plastic 'teeth' used to lock the wheels when the brakes are activated not only failed to engage properly during the 20-degree incline testing, but revealed bending and stress marks. (By September 2015, 20-degree testing will be mandatory in the US.)

Graco strongly defends the reliability and safety of its stroller, with no reported brake-related incidents or injuries related to this model.

Customers are advised to contact Graco at 1-800-345-4109 regarding the following models: Ready2Grow Classic Connect LX or Classic Connect, Click Connect, or Click Connect LX.

More stroller recalls.

The Live-In Nanny Who Refused To Leave

Nanny Nightmare

The Live-In Nanny Who Refused To Leave

nanny from hell

A Californian family hired the nanny from hell. Despite their pleas, a live-in nanny hired through Craigslist by the Bracamonte family refused to leave their home after she was fired.

According to an article in the Huffington Post, things got off to a good start with nanny Diane Stretton. But eventually Marcella and Ralph Bracamonte noted that the 64-year-old caregiver, who received free room and board as part of her employment, quit performing her babysitting and household duties.

Stretton blamed medical problems (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) for keeping her inside her rented room—a fact she failed to disclose when she took up employment in the Bracamonte home.

The family claims it warned Stretton to shape up several times, and even reduced her load—before ultimately firing her.

And still Stretton refused to move out. Police would not intervene because legally she now held residency rights. The Bracamontes were told to obtain an eviction order to have the former nanny removed.

Meanwhile, Stretton threatened to sue for "elder abuse, breach of contract and wrongful termination."

"I want to push for a law that protects families in their home. If there are no lease or rental agreement then whoever you invite in your home for a period of time does not make them a resident!" wrote Marcella Bracamonte on her Facebook page. "HOMEOWNERS MUST TAKE PRECEDENCE FIRST AND FOREMOST IN THEIR HOME OF OCCUPANCY! Whoever thought one could be victimized in their own home!?!"

Despite passing background checks, Stretton was apparently homeless for almost a decade. She has since vowed to vacate the property on 4 July, provided the weather is cool.

What do you think of this case? Sour grapes or a reminder to rigorously vet your caregiver?
