RECALL: Old Navy Toddler Girl Aqua Sock

Potential Fall Hazard

RECALL: Old Navy Toddler Girl Aqua Sock

Old Navy, Health Canada, and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC) have jointly recalled the Toddler Girl Aqua Socks (style #896452) in pink and purple sizes 5-11. The slip-on shoes have less traction when worn on wet or smooth surfaces such as hard wood or tile, therefore posing a potential fall hazard.

Health Canada has received one report of an incident related to the use of the Socks.

Customers are advised to stop using these shoes and return them to any Old Navy store for a full refund. Those who return the shoes before November 9, 2012 will also receive a coupon for $10 off their next purchase at Old Navy. Contact [email protected] if you plan to mail the item.

For further information, customers may contact Old Navy toll-free at 1-866-580-9930 between 9 AM and 9 PM ET Monday through Friday, Saturday between 12 PM and 7 PM ET, and Sunday between 12 PM and 6 PM.

From February 2012 through June 2012, approximately 3,800 shoes have been sold in Canada at Old Navy stores and through online orders on the Canadian Old Navy website.

CEO Plans to Skip Mat Leave

Yahoo not Yippee

CEO Plans to Skip Mat Leave

You may have heard that former Google exec Marissa Mayer just became the new CEO of Yahoo. Oh yeah, and she's pregnant. But far from saying yahoo, or even yippee, you may want to contain your feminist cheers. It seems Mayer, like many women today, plans on working through most of her pregnancy and taking very little time off with her baby.

Kudos to Yahoo for taking on an expectant Mayer in the age of so many pregnancy discrimination cases. Having said that, it was probably a no-brainer for the company, given that the new boss plans on sacrificing most of the time with her newborn in favour of nurturing her corporate baby.

Mayer told Fortune that her maternity leave will comprise just a few weeks during which she'll carry on working. So on one hand, it's fabulous to see a woman take up such an important office. On the other, I feel for her child. Those early months should be sacred: a precious (and limited) time spent feeding the bond between mom and baby.

Even those few weeks when Mayer will be at home, she'll be in an entirely different head space than the one her newborn requires. She might as well name her baby Silicone now.

While I'm all in favour of women balancing career and motherhood, it seems to me Mayer's scale has tipped long before her baby has even been born. Agree/disagree?

Men Held for 'Smuggling' Kinder Eggs

Inside the Warped Mind of U.S. Border Control

Men Held for 'Smuggling' Kinder Eggs

There's something deeply warped going on south of the border. And you can cite individual freedom all you like, but when chocolate is illegal—and guns are not—a society needs to do some serious head scratching.

The latest in contraband is Kinder eggs. Yes, the same week that saw the tragic events unfold in a Colorado theatre also saw two men arrested for 'smuggling' six Kinder Surprise eggs across the Canadian border, into the U.S..

According to the Canadian Press report, the popular chocolate eggs, often purchased for Easter, have been banned in America, as the tiny toy inside poses a choking hazard for young children. All this while, with relative ease, you can purchase a firearm and use it to kill innocent people at a film screening. But I digress...

Incredibly, those found packing Kinders can face a fine of up to $2,500. That's a big penalty for such a little treat, as Seattle residents Brandon Loo and Christopher Sweeney recently discovered... Surprise!

The pair were released after spending more than two hours in custody trying to convince officials they had no idea about the milk chocolate ban. In 2011, U.S. Customs and Border Control is said to have claimed 60,000 Kinder Surprise from baggage.

You have to wonder what happens to all those confiscated eggs. Perhaps Border Control has developed one helluva a sweet tooth...
