Rugs are the perfect way to add pattern and colour to a girl's room. You can go with a more neutral look {I am seriously loving grey right now!} or add vibrant colours to make a bold statement. Here are five rugs to suit any girl's style:
I don't know about you, but when a new season arrives, I want to change the decor in my home and make it feel fresh. Cushions are one of the easiest ways to add a new look to a room. I have been looking {obsessing} for cushions for a really exciting project I am working on and I just have to share some of the amazing online shops that I found.
Spring is finally here....hooray! Pastels really say spring to me and no one captures this better than Finnish photographer, Krista Palmu. I recently came across her work when I was sourcing for a Cityline segment.
I am really excited to be launching a new series on my blog called, 'Ask the Stylist.' Each month, I will respond to a design dilemma from one of you. You provide the question, along with photos and other details, and I will put together a design plan right here on my blog.
This first design dilemma comes from Jane. She wants new drapery, art and lighting for her dining room. The space is a blank slate with neutral-ish green chairs and dark maple table.
My neighbour was in his garage this spring organizing some items to donate when I saw this:
She was in need of a little TLC, the frame had some slight damage and the canvas was dented in one spot but I knew I could do something so I asked to take her home. My husband just loves when I do this and then store items without any idea how or when I will DIY them.
Children love colour, pattern, and whimsy. Why not surround them with art that inspired or teaches them?! There is art out there to suit every style and need, the trick is knowing where to look. Here are my favourites organized into six categories:
I am obsessed with instagram. I love how the filters and the square shape instantly makes photos pretty. They are perfect for DIY projects too {what's not really?} I used instagram photos to create a few fun pieces of canvas art.
I created my dream home office on my latest Cityline segment. It is a space with happy and soothing colours and personal, inspirational touches. I love the pop of orange against the soft blue.
Bring your instagram photos off your phone and show them off by turning them into coasters. This is such an easy DIY project and will add instant cool factor to any table.
I was working on an office segment for Cityline and, because I like to have a little DIY in everything I do, I thought I would take my husband's old scruffy filing cabinet and turn it into an end table. It was so easy to do!
Here is what it looked like before, black, dented and dusty! Notice the paint splattered on the front.
I have been kind of obsessed with intsagram DIY projects lately. I also have a thing for fridge magnets. Each time I travel, it is the one souvenir that I always buy. I thought I would combine two of my favourite things to create these very simple and fun instagram magnets. I even made one of my magnet collection. Because that's how I roll.
Art is such an important part of any room. I am shocked by the number of homes I see where there is little to no art on the walls. But I do get it, art can be intimidating. People worry about matching their sofa, how much to spend or where to hang it. I think choosing art is very personal, but there are five basic rules that will make your art stand out in any room.
1. Hang art lower than you think. It should be at eye level when hung on a bare wall. The centre of the art should be about 60" above the floor.
As I have said before, I am a font snob. I can spend more time choosing fonts then choosing images when writing a blog post.
I am usually not a fan of writing in all caps, but sometimes, like in a title, you need your words to pop. Here are five all caps fonts for those times when you need your words to stand out:
This is the time of year when we all feed the need to be more organized. A great way to 'corral your clutter' is to use decorative trays throughout your home. They add colour and pattern and keep small every day items together in one place. I created this fabric covered tray for a recent Cityline segment. It now has a happy new home on my coffee table. For now, it holds flowers.
I say it every year because it's true: I do not make New Year's Resolutions. I do, however, have dreams and set goals for the upcoming year. Last year, I reflected on an amazing twelve months and wrote my dreams for 2012. Some came true, some did not. Even so, I feel like a very:
I am taking part in Olioboard's Holiday Style Oliohop this month. It is an opportunity for ten to bloggers share their Holiday Style decor inspiration by creating a moodboard using Olioboard, an online interior design based site used to create design boards
Olioboard is a Canadian {yay!} website that is an amazing tool for anyone looking for interior design inspiration, to experiment with designing a room and, now, to shop.
It's important to have a work space that is both functional and beautiful. You will never accomplish all of your important tasks if your office is not tidy, organized properly, and equipped with the right technology. And you won't be able to get your creative juices flowing if your workspace doesn't feel welcoming and doesn't inspire you.
Whether you live in a condo or apartment that does not allow real Christmas trees, you don't don't have the space for an eight-footer, or just want a change, there are many fun alternatives to Christmas trees. From art, to chalkboard drawings, here are my top five alternatives to a Christmas tree.
I love decorating for Christmas, so when IKEA asked me to participate in their 'Help Spread Jul' event, it was a very fast yes! Jul is Swedish for Christmas, by the way {It's one of the few Swedish words I recall from living in Stockholm}. It is no secret that I love IKEA and I look there every year for holiday decor. I have to say though, that this year the selection is spectacular.
